What is the Role of HR in Hotel Industry?



 

In an organisational context, HRM is a process that helps the employees of an organisation to do the following things in a continuous and systematic way(Mondal, 2023)

Acquire or sharpen the skills required to perform various functions related to their current or anticipated future roles. Develop their common skills as individuals and teams, supervisor-subordinate relationships, teamwork and interdepartmental cooperation are strong and create an organisational culture that contributes to employees' professional well-being, motivation and pride.(Mondal, 2023)

HR Challenges or Issues in Hospitality Industry

  1.  The characteristics features of work in hotels and catering are long, anti-social hours, 
  2. Hotel staff work especially hard during those gap days when other parts of the world enjoy holidays, usually hotels are booked to capacity during such festive and holiday periods and hotel staff are required to work overtime during these periods.
  3. Long working hours increase stress on individuals and have detrimental effects on their psychological and physical health. Social consequences include family tension and stress in marital relationships.
  4.  while in the workplace but working long hours, can lead to poor labor productivity in terms of high unemployment and low labor productivity.
  5. One of the challenges in improving the working environment is to ensure that both employees and employers are involved in the process so that improvements are tailored to the aspirations and preferences of both groups, leading to higher margins and productivity for businesses, higher wages and better work-life balance. For employees.
  6. Having set about improving working conditions, the next challenge is to attract and retain the correct staff. To deal with this, some employers have focused on job satisfaction and designed systems to reward staff for theirperformance. Key employee retention is critical to the long-term success of any business.
  7. Retaining the best employees ensures customer satisfaction, product sales, effective succession planning, and deeply embedded organizational knowledge and learning. The HR personnel should analyze the results of the exit interviews, come up with remedial solutions, and initiate action.(Mondal, 2023)
